The paper deals with the age and the origin of the early medieval Alemannic common law, the fragments of the Pactus Alamannorum and the text of the Lex Alamannorum, which has an exceptionally rich manuscript tradition. After examining the common roots of the regulations and the prologues of the Lex Alamannorum and the Lex Baiuvariorum, and the influence of Frankish capitularia on the Alemannic leges, a possible answer to the question regarding the date and the legislator will be presented.en
